If you only want email then stay with OE,
If you want extensive calendar/appointments/tracking/contacts etc then think
about OL
You export yr mail to OL

OutLook is way 'better' than OutLook Express. It has many,
many more features that make using the software easier to use,
more powerful to use, and most importantly, much safer to use.

IMO the only thing OE should be used for is with newsgroups and
even OutLook itself can be used with newsgroups -- and also with
RSS news readers I might add -- so there is no rational need to
not use OutLook other than ignorance.

Install OutLook 2003 if you can or at the very least OutLook 2000
which is less beneficial than OutLook 2003 but still better than OE.

The problem with installing OutLook 2000 at this point is finding all
of the add-ins and patches that are now easy to do with 2003 as it
is the current release.

I would also suggest upgrading to XP if you can manage to do so
as ME is really out of the loop these days. The most experienced
will do a clean install to a new or freshly formatted hard drive.

So, your friend was right and so am I.

She can't upgrade to 2003 as her OS does not qualify.

Also, the Outlook News Reader is really a stub of Outlook Express. Outlook
does not have its own built-in news reader and has always used Outlook
Express.

After searching google.groups.com and finding no answer, clintonG asked:

For the general user Express is fast and will work just
fine. I resently changed over to Outlook for the extra
features such as scheluding for my business routes. When
you change from express you will be asked to make this
your primary email program (which you can change back at
any time through IE6 options, programs) When you have
Outlook up and running go to file, down to import and you
can import your express address book as well as all
emails from the old program. Now you'll have two copies.
Sometimes I still go back to express but don't make it my
primary email program any more.

True, but it's a better idea to export your messages to Outlook using
Outlook Express, since importing them from Outlook Express using Outlook
will change the Received date to be the time of import. Exporting from OE
preserves the date fields.
