Is the product key validation language dependent ?

Hello,

I purchased Office 2008 in US english.
I wish to use one of the two other available keys to install Office 2008 in French language, provided a CD version of it borrowed from a colleague.

May I please ask if I can make the French Office work with my other US key ?

Though I can't say so with complete certainty, I believe that this is

Hi Michel,

Unfortunately it doesn't work, I've tried to register a French version of Office with one of my US key left, and the app states that the key isn't valid.

I've ordered via Digital River though, I don't know if this is the source of the problem.

I'm now considering trading one of my US key with a French one, but I wonder if this is feasible.

I'd appreciate any positive experience from our fellow members, if by any chance they succeeded with a language independent key, if such thing exists.

Hello again,

this is indeed a problem with the download version, which uses different
product keys than the boxed retail version does. The download product key
only works with a downloaded copy and will not work with a retail version;
similarly, the product key of a retail version does not work with the
download version. However, if you use one of your product keys that came
with the English retail version while installing the French version (retail
version), it should work.

As I only have keys from a downloaded version of US Office, I guess I'll have to wait for a downloadable version of Office in French when Microsoft will produce it, or buy a retail product in French as of today.
