There is a Contact Management database that has been available in the last several versions of
Access as a built-in sample template. Did you do a full install of Access? You should have these
samples available. In Access 2002, look in the Task Pane for the category "New from template",
and click on "General Templates...". Then select the Databases tab. I think this link should
work to download a copy from Microsoft:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/TC010178391033.aspx
In Access 97, select the option that reads "Database Wizard" under "Create a New Database Using".
In Access 2000, select the option that reads "Access database wizards, pages and projects" under
"Create a New Database Using".

Thanks for the reply
I mean a database that stores names, addresses and telephone numbers for
personal use e.g. for reference at Christmas when writing Christmas Cards. I
was slightly surprised that I couldn't find a suitable template.

What exactly do you mean by a "basic name and address book"?
Please write your questions in the body of the news message.
