Is there a length limit to the hyperlink field in PWA views?

I enter the field "hyperlink" in Project Pro to link to a supporting
document in the file server. The path is long and won't show in its
entirety in a PWA view. So the link won't work since the rest of the path
and file name aren't included.

Is there a length limit to the hyperlink field in PWA views?
Thx

Are you sure you are handling project documents correctly in PWA? You
shouldn't need to create a hyperlink in the project plan to link to the
document. Instead, you should do the following:

1. Open the project plan in Microsoft Project 2002
2. Make sure the plan is saved in the Project Server database (this will
create a subweb for the project in SharePoint)
3. Click Collaborate - Documents
4. Click the large Shared Documents icon
5. Click the Upload Document button
6. Follow the steps in the Upload Document page

You can also go directly to the Documents page in PWA, if you choose, and
then select the project for which you want to upload a project document. Is
this how you are handling project documents? Let me know.

I know about that. The disadvantage of linking to documents through
Sharepoint Team Services is that it makes a copy of the document in the STS
server. This impacts both storage capacity (it would add up quickly) and
document versions (most of the company's departments don't have access to
this system but still keep many documents of interest in various network
folders).

In contrast, by using the hyperlink field (yes, I would be limited to one
document per task), I can be linked to a document anywhere on our network or
Internet for that matter, without worrying about copies (which is the last
version) and access via PWA.

Hall:

Use the HREF field, which will be clickable no matter how much of the URL is
exposed. Always use UNC paths in your hyperlinks.
