Is there a maximum file size for powerpoint?

We are working with a presentation that is over 1 Gig and when we save it we
cannot reopen it because the file is "corrupt" or not a valid ppt file.

Before looking for a max size, I would look into why the file is so big.
Check out things like whether the pictures are the right size for the
presentation, whether Fast Saves is turned off, etc.
