Is there a maximum number of fonts I can install?

I'm using WindowsXP Pro and Office 2003 Pro. I would like to add many more
fonts to the system. I have plenty of RAM and hard drive space. Is there a
maximum number of fonts I can install before the performance of my PC begins
to diminish? I know this used to be an issue. Is it still?

There is no limitation as to the number of fonts
that can be installed in Windows XP.
