is there a quick way to make several words documents read only?

I want to protect copies of a lot of documents from changes by making them
read only - is there a way to do this as a batch
or is my only option to save them individually?

Windows Explorer, select them, R-click on them, Properties, Read-only,
Ok. Or if they are All in one folder, use the Read-only box in Folder
Properties to set Read-only on every file in the folder.

I use Explorer, select the docs (click and then shift- or ctrl-click), then
right click them and choose properties. There you can check the read-only
box and apply it.
