Is there a way in frontpage to autorun an .exe file within Frontpa

M

Mark Fitzpatrick

No. This is a definite no no from security. Never try to have something
going on without the user creating some interaction to cause it. Trying to
run an executable is a very big no no fromthe browser's perspective and many
will try to shut it down unless the user says otherwise Remember, the act of
clicking a link and then responding to the save/run dialog is a very good
thing and many users would really freak if an exe just started running by
itself and would probably be afraid that your site is doing something
illegal to their systems.

Hope this helps,

No. This would be a major security issue and even if you could the user's
browser's security settings would never allow it.

plus their firewall would light up like a christmas tree....well not quite, but
you get the point. It would not go un-noticed by a users firewall set to detect
unauthorised executable files executing.

I run a number of websites that use .EXE files. No problem at all,
but it is my server that I have full control of. I use Foxpro and
Webconnect. Very good tools if you have the experience of
programming.
