Is there a way to attach a password to an e-mail so that only someone with
the password can access it?

Not really (not via a password, anyway). What about attaching a Word doc
that's password protected?

It's called public key encryption and is handled by certificates installed
on your PC. You have to pay for certificates, in general, but Thawte has a
free one for personal use. http://www.thawte.com/
