Is there Global IME for Office 2003?

D

Denton

I know there's Global IME for Office 2000 and XP, but I can't find it for
Office 2003. Does it even exist? If it does, where can I find it?

Hi Denton,

There is an updated (Nov 2004) Office 2003 IME available here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...10-4cc1-4040-b710-625a45f2594d&displaylang=en
That ties in with the information in the article previously cited.

You may also want to check with the folks in the Word
International Features group for additional information

Office XP IME installers will not allow installation on a system running
Office 2003 and not XP. So where is the downloads for 2003?

The help note refers you to the office download support, you can do a search
there and all hits are installs for Office XP and will not install on 2003.

Hi Tidehawk,

As mentioned in the previous reply, the basic IME support
for Office 2003 is provided by Windows XP. There is
an update to certain IME languages for Office 2003 available
here.
http://microsoft.com/downloads/deta...10-4cc1-4040-b710-625a45f2594d&DisplayLang=en

For additional information on using IMEs or other International
features in Office use the link to the Word International Features
newsgroup below.

Bob,

The files that are availible for download in the update page you mention are
mearly file updates and did not add any languages to my language bar. I will
take my plight to the international forums.

As you mentioned Windows XP gives BASIC IME support but only has a fraction
of the functionality of IME's able to be installed for Office XP.

Readers: As it stands now I've found the only way to regain Japanese/Korean
functionality to Office 2003 is to go purchace Proofing tools, which will
give you over 50 languages. It can be found for 60-100 bucks online. Not
too cool as this function used to be supported free with Office XP and still
is.

Thanks for tryin to help Bob.

Hello Bob,

I have a Windows XP Professional system with Chinese (Simplified) -
Microsoft Pinyin IME 3.0 added as an Input option. However, its dictionary
seems corrupted and the IME can not be used. When I call out the Text
Servicese and Input Languages popup windows,
click on the Properties button after selecting the input method, there is no
window popup for setting.

Besides reinstall windows, is there a way to reinstall the input method?
I tried removed and re-added the method but it is still the same.

Thanks for the help.

Hi Toh,

It's not clear from your description if this is a recent
change in behavior or one that simply hasn't worked, also
not clear if it's in Word or a Windows issue.

The folks who know the in's and outs of the multilanguage
feature set hang out over in the Word International features
newsgroup (link below).

Hi... did you ever find a solution to this problem other than shelling out
cash for the Proofing software? It truly, well, sucks that language support
is available for the other Office versions and not Office 2003. If you ever
did find a solution to this, I would love to hear about it or be directed to
the link...

Thanks,
Angela

Hi Angela,

MS Office 2003 uses the Language capabilities built into
Windows XP. While there is an update to those features
for some languages available through http://microsoft.com/downloads
you may want to check with the Internationl Features folks
link below for more information on configuring your PC to
have access to other languages in Office 2003.

Toh,

If you haven't receive any answer in the other NG, let me answer your
question here: Yes you can reinstall just the IME part.

For Simplified Chinese, please see:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...10c9-492c-9f6e-bc64d42148d6&displaylang=zh-cn

Traditional Chinese:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...61b1-492d-82c5-f553bd102b30&DisplayLang=zh-tw

Both are to be used with Office 2003.

You can just try installing any of the above and probably it will do a
update on your current IME.

Hope this helps.

Hi Atang,

You may want to post in the Word International Features group (link below)
and add some details about the Edition and base language set
of Windows and Office you're using as well as which Chinese
language set you're trying to use,

You do not need to download an IME.

Here is how you do it:

1. Start/Control Panel/Date, Time, Language and Regional Options

2. Select Add Other Languages

3. Check the box that says, "Install files for East Asian Languages"

AFTER you have done those steps, reboot your computer, then do the following:

Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

In Control Panel, click Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options.

Click Add other languages, and then click the Languages tab.

Under Text services and input languages, click Details. The Text services
and input languages dialog box appears.

Under Installed Services, if the language that you want to type in is not
listed, or if the language that you want is listed but the keyboard is not
listed under it, click Add.

In the Input Language list, select the language that you want to type in.
This automatically populates the Keyboard layout/IME field.

Click OK.

Under Installed Services, you see the selected language with a keyboard
installed.
Click OK to close the Text Services and Input Languages dialog box, and then
click OK to close the Regional and Language Options dialog box.

Let me know if you have any trouble.
