is Word 2003 an OLE compliant app

Is DRW98 (Microsoft Article ID: 181154) an appropriate download for Office
2003?

Thanks but I already saw 181552 - it just says that one MAY receive that
error if setup cannot find Mso97.dll and Mso7enu.dll. On my prior machine
with 98SE I did not have Office 97 installed yet my Word app had MS Draw 98.
What gives? Having purchased Office 2003 for my new machine, what's my path
if I want to update all the diagrams I created in MS Draw 98? Purchase an
Office 97 program?

You had Word 97 which is an Office97 application. Locate another copy
would be the quickest way out and then convert the files to something
compatible. I don't/did't use MS draw so I can't tell you what they turn
out to be, perhaps someone else here has had to solve this problem.

Thanks, your right. By the way, I found Article ID 829883 in a search of the
Word Discussion Group which describes how I CAN use DRW98 in Word 2003. So I
will attempt that route providing Microsoft allows me to use my old Office 98
installation disks from my old machine to do a minimal 97 installation on my
new machine. I'm starting to feel that I am not retired but working for
Microsoft!

Hi Nick,

The MS Office drawing canvas (Insert=>Picture=>New drawing )
is the replacement for MS Draw. Is there a function
or capability you're not able to use in the Drawing Canvas
that requires MS Draw 98?

Major step backwards is that I was able to obtain very accurate scale in
DRW98 since the cursor was tracked in horizontal and vertical rulers. Then
there is the issue of upward compatibility and all the drawings I have in
DRW98. If I had an easy path forward with what I have, to an app that matched
the old features, I would not be struggling now. I don't need a cad system
but Canvas can't match Draw.

Hi Nick,

In Draw98v2 in Word 2000 (Installed from CD #2 from
of Office 2000) the cursor doesn't 'track' in
the ruler, so it's similar to the Office XP/2002 and
Office 2003 app Drawing Canvas and/or the
Insert=>Object=>Microsoft Word Picture
feature in Word.

The Draw98 Add-in for MS Office 97 uses the MSO97.dll
(primary file of Office 97) so I'm guessing it's looking
for Office 97.

Draw 98's menu has Format=>Position for a particular object
while the Drawing Canvas uses Word's Format=>Autoshape=>Position
for granularity (you can turn off/on grid snapping from the
Drawing Toolbar=>Draw=>Grid in both)

There are a number of inexpensive packages that may work for
you, although not many will support copying and pasting
MS Draw objects as separate elements.
