Issue with TOC in Word

Hi

I use VBA to automate some documents for my clients. I have an issue with
the Table of Contents (TOC) in some Word documents. I receive these documents
from the client to fix from time to time where their TOC is corrupted. The
corruption disappears if I refresh the TOC. However, I'm wondering if there
is a preventive measure that I can take to fix this.

The issue I'm facing is that sometimes the TOC link looks like this when I
hover the mouse over it:

file:///C:\Documents and Settings\avarghese\Desktop\‰‰
Control + click to follow link

Normally I would get:

Current Document
Control + click to follow link

I dont understand how this happens. Can anyone help me?

Thanks
Al

Hi Al

You don't mention which version of Word is involved, here...

My first inclination would be to check this setting on the machines with the
reported problem (strange hyperlink path):

Tools/Options/General/Web options/Files; the checkbox about updating links
on save. If this is active where you see the problem, and not active where no
problems are occurring, then you've at least narrowed down what's causing the
problem. Not sure there's any way to solve it, short of telling your
customers to keep it turned off unless they explicitly need it.

Thanks Cindy.

I'll check with my client about that option and have them uncheck it if it
is checked. Then we'll see if the problem recurs. They use Word XP and Word
2003.

Thanks
Al
