Issues regarding drawing tools

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel Hi

The Drawing tools are of poor standards when compared with Windows version of Ms office. Why is MS doing this kind of sub-standardizing the quality for mac users who have purchased the licensed product. This is day light robbery.

I find drawing tools too tedious to work with, for instances if you try to draw a simple arrow, the line is not at all aligned with the arrow head.

Contrary to what you apparently believe, Mac Office 2008 is equipped with
the same Escher II graphics engine as Win Office 2007 & 2008. It isn't quite
as richly implemented in 2008 as it is on the Windows platform but that is
more a matter of omitted features -- those that have been implemented are no
different that their PC counterparts.

If you have a complaint you'll more likely get it to the attention of
Microsoft if you use the Help> Send Feedback option in any of the Office
apps. This public newsgroup isn't monitored by Microsoft. FWIW, though, I'm
not seeing any issues whatsoever with any of the Arrow line tools or with
the Block Arrow AutoShapes. And keep in mind that the drawing tools are
provided for convenience - not precision - in the first place :)

Hi Bob Jones

Thanks for the feed back, i was really frustrated with the drawing tools interface provided by Ms Office which i use very extensively. I was a user of windows os for more than a decade and recently immigrated to Mac OS and will never ever switch back to windows (with no hard feelings).

Before abandoning hope, try the drawing tools in PowerPoint.

It's the same Escher II graphics engine that Word uses, but the PowerPoint
team had a chance to implement it in a nicer way. Draw your pictures over
there, and paste them in to Word.

There are many things in Office 2008 that are not as good as Microsoft
wanted to make them. The simple reason is that they ran out of time and
money.

There will be huge improvements in the next version of Office. And keep
that purchase receipt for Office 2008: there will be "deals" to upgrade to
the next version, and they will require proof of date of purchase...

Cheers

No hard feelings at all :) Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I get
the impression that you may be comparing the tools provided in Office 2008
to those that were available in Win Office versions prior to 2007. Mac
Office 2004 & earlier offered those same tools. With the advent of 2007 (PC)
& 2008 (Mac), however, MS implemented the new engine which is decidedly
'different' in many ways. It just depends on your preferences & usage as to
whether those differences translate to better/worse.

The only thing that concerns me is your mention of the alignment issue,
which just shouldn't be. That suggests that there may be a problem local to
your installation. If you'd care to explore it perhaps it can be resolved or
at least explained. Provide your exact Office & OS X update levels along
with a complete, detailed description of the issues you're experiencing
someone may be able to help clear it up.

One thought comes to mind re the arrows: For some reason MS saw fit to
include a Shadow effect as the default for all of the shapes. That shadow
can give the impression that some items - such as arrows & lines - are out
of kilter. If you turn the shadow off (Formatting Palette) does the arrow
look any better to you?
