I just installed Office Home & Student 2007 edition, replacing my old Office
97 Professional edition. Even though it installed and works fine, I ran
into a couple of strange problems:
1. I cannot remove Office 97. When I try through Control Panel (Windows XP)
I get an error message that System32/autoexec.NT file is not suitable for
running MS Dos & Microsoft Windows Applications. I have no idea what this
means or why I cannot remove Office 97. On the other hand, a couple of
message on this board say that I should keep Office 97 in order to make
spell check in Outlook Express work. True?
2. Where does the 2007 edition install? I can't find a folder for it
anywhere. I'm trying to program intelligent keys on my keyboard to open
Word and Excel. No problem with Excel, I just gave the as "Excel" and the
keyboard somehow figures it out. But nothing works with Word. I tried just
"Word" and several variations (Microsoft Office Word, etc.) and always get
an error message. I tried putting in the path to a shortcut, and got the
same error message. I would like to put in the path to word.exe (or
whatever they call it in 2007), but Search cannot find it (even with hidden
files turned on). Don't know why Excel works with smart keys, but Word does
not. I had no problems at all with Office 97 in setting up the intelligent
keys.
Any suggestions?
