Issues with offline outlook .ost files

I've been having some issues using roaming profiles and Outlook 2003.

Here is the error message I receive when logging on to another computer
trying to access outlook for that user.

The path for the file c:\documents and
settings\johns.swwfuc.000\local settings\application
data\microsoft\outlook\outlook.ost is not valid.

I haven't seen that issue with everyone, but I can't figure out what's
causing it. Outlook works fine when they are signed on to the machine they
normall use, but if they log off and switch to another pc, there are problems
accessing their outlook.

I have roaming profiles set up for each user and everything else transfers
without a problem.

Anyone have any ideas??, I need help on this and am lost at the moment

1) You are aware that the "local settings" folder in not included in the
roaming profile. (nor can it be included)

2) Ideally you would disabled cached mode & the use of pst files if this is
an exchange shop. (reason why is that the ost & pst files are stored under
the "local settings" directory structure)

We got rid of our old pst files and moved to exchange 2003. I'm not sure
what type of file we use now, but it's stored on an exchange server. How do
you disable cached mode with outlook 2003 or what do I need to do to prevent
this problem?

I want the mailbox to follow the user around regardless of where they log
on. that's my goal.

You can use a GPO to disable the use of cached mode for *new* Outlook
profiles. For an existing profile, I just have users start Outlook, r-click
on Outlook Today/Mailbox - <username> folder, properties, advanced button,
advanced tab, and then uncheck the box about cached mode.
