Issues with re-insall of Office Beta 2

B

BobB

I attempted to install the Technical Release yesterday and encountered some
issues, that finally made me decide I had to back it out. After uninstalling
it, I had further issues with a re-install of Beta 2, which made me back off
to Office 2003, to try to start from the beginning. Even after getting back
to Office 2003 being fully functional, I get the same error when trying to
re-install Beta 2. During the Beta 2 installation, the installation fails
with the following error "Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007 (beta)
encountered and error during setup. Error 2711. An internal error has
occurred. (GraphicsFiltersCDRFilesIntl_1033 )

Any ideas on how to get past this?

Have you emptied your temp folders? Disabled your AV (especially Symantec
Corporate Edition)? Are you trying to run setup from a CD or the files on a
local or network drive?

I have disabled Norton AV. I followed another post to empty my temp files
through a command line prompt, "cmd /c /k del %temp%\*.* /q /s /f". Doing
this did not correct the issue. Is there another area I should be looking in
to empty files? The file I am installing from is a download. I am installing
from its location on my desktop

Hi Bob,

The Error 2711 is one you can get with mixed versions of the product installed. If you have more than one Office 2007 Beta 2
product installed (check in Add/Remove Programs) then all of them have to uninstalled and the PC restarted before reinstalling all
of the Beta 2 products and *then* applying the Beta2 Technical Refresh Patch.

See if the basic Office 2007 Beta 2 Technical Refresh (B2TR) steps here and the steps above help you get things running again
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923718/en-us?FR=1
If not, then there may be a bit of registry surgery needed as well.

FWIW, you may want to move the downloaded files to a folder other than on your desktop. Desktop installs can provide odd results on
their own.

Bob and Milly,

Thank you for your help so far. Bob, I tried the steps you mentioned, I did
have other Beta 2007 programs installed. I uninstalled those, did another
temp folder cleanup, and ran the steps in the article quoted, including
enabling logging. I still see the same failure as originally described trying
to install the original Beta package (BTW, I moved this off the desktop and
tried to install from a location on C:). What seems a little strange is that
after the failure, I went searching for the log file to read through it and
to attach it, but there was no log file found on my system called MSI*.log,
or B2tr.log.

How bad is the registry surgery you are suggesting?
