Item Selected at Bottom of Window During Sort

Hi Guys
When you have a mail message selected and click on one of the column
headings in order to sort, it automatically places your selection at the
bottom of the window - in ascending as well as descending order.

Shouldn't ascending order place it at the top of the window?

Click once to sort top to bottom; click again to sort bottom to top.

Thank you but, I understand how that works bottom to top or top to bottom.
What my problem is that when I select an item, click on the top of the column
the item I have selected drops to the bottom of the window instead of at the
top.
