Items get lost when filtering taskpad

I'm trying to set up Outlook 2003 according to Michael Linenberger's
"Total Workday Control" system and one of his recommendations is to
use the taskpad and filter on items due today and earlier (among other
criteria).

When I set up this filter, I see items due today right after I quit
the filter dialogue, but when I switch to another folder and back
again, those items are missing. Items due before today are displayed
correctly.

Anyone also noticed this behaviour and can possibly point to a cause/
workaround?

TIA
Alex

I forgot to add: This is on a German-localized verion of OL 2003 SP2,
in case that matters.

I don't know hiw suggested settings but I can suggest a filter that works
very well for work management.

Use the Active Tasks for Selected days view of the TaskPad.

Use Start and Due dates for all tasks when you make them. Active Tasks for
selected days means you will see Tasks from their Start Date onwards and
they will go Red the day after their Due date.

So if I want to call you next week, I make a Task that starts on Monday and
is due on, say, Thursday. It doesn't show up today (as I don't need to get
started on it yet).

In the meantime, I tried to replace <= 'heute' (German for <= 'today')
in the SQL tab with the English equivalent, or with < 'tomorrow' in
both English an German versions, to no avail.

Judy, I don't know how the 'Active Tasks' view exactly translates to
German, but I have a view called 'Aufgaben für heute' (literally
translated: 'Tasks for today'). Maybe that's what you mean. After
toying around with that, I now have tasks due today displayed
correctly. However, I need an additional filter (something like "User-
defined category field is not 'personal'/is not 'home2'"). This filter
used to work, but it has stopped working now. The funny thing is that
the filter seen in the SQL tab still looks exactly the same, it should
filter out those tasks.
Something seems broken here.
And I clearly remember a filter like that working without problems in
an older version (OL 98).
