Japanese Phonetics-furigana-ruby problem

Y

While using Office for Mac 2004...specifically Word. I am running
into a problem with accessing Japanese Phonetic s...the furigana
that go above the Japanese text via a feature called 'ruby.'

In Office for Win, one simply highlights that Japanese text/character
in question and then clicks on 'format' and lastly 'ruby.' Ruby is a
great feature that appoints the furigana (or phonetics) for each
character.

The problem that I am running into in Office for Mac 2004 is that it
does not appoint phonetics (furigana) but prompts me/the user to
appoint their own phonetics/furigana.

My question is...what must I do, download or set in order for the
'ruby' feature to automatically appoint the correct phonetics
(furigana) to Japanese text?

Any advice would be greatly greatly greatly appreciated.

You would need to purchase a copy of Parallels, a copy of Windows XP, and a
copy of Word 2003 or Word 2007. :)

Mac "Word" is a cut-down: there are many features it doesn't have. You just
found one. The Japanese version of Office 2004 has Japanese functions the
English version doesn't have, but I still don't think it has automatic
furigana.

Sorry!

Thank you both very much for your answers. I am using Office for Mac
2004 (English version) and I have parallels and Office (mac on the mac
side and PC on the XP side) installed on both sides of my Intel. Duo
Core system.
Is there actually a way access programs via parallels...for example PC
Office from the Mac side of parallels...? I had the understanding
that only files could be accessed. I will double-check parallels help
area in the meantime...thanks again MVPs!

Sure is: I do.

Study (Carefully!!) the Parallels documentation about "Shared Folders".
It's not all that clear or easy to understand.

Basically, don't store ANYTHING in your Windows "Drive".

Map your Mac OS X volume as a drive in Windows, then move your Windows "My
Documents" home folder to be the same folder as your Mac "Documents" folder.
You MUST shut down Windows to enable shared folders, it's one of the
settings you can't make on a running system (although, Parallels 3 enables
some flexibility with this...). Having enabled Shared folders, you can
adjust them while Windows is running.

End of problem: the only time you will get a blip is if you forget to close
the file on one side before opening it on the other. And your Windows
Virtual Hard Drive will stay nice and small and fast.

Study also the bit in the Parallels help about adding Windows applications
to the Mac desktop and Dock. Might as well keep them handy.

Finally, cautiously try out Parallels "Coherence" function. You may want to
leave that until you get the Windows side running the way you want it,
because it makes fiddling with Windows more difficult. But once you get it
sorted, you can behave as though both kinds of software are simply "Running
on my Mac".

Cheers
