Java Virtual Machine

Apparently I no longer have it and from time to time I visit a site where I
need it to view the site properly (or at all). Can I safely download it from
the Sun Microsystems site? Is it the same as the old one that came with IE?
Is there anything I should be wary of? Thanks.

No. In fact, it's not even the same old one that came with Windows.
Microsoft no longer makes the Microsoft JVM available.

Yes. Using Java applets in your web site. ;-)

I noticed this:
I've got the old jvm from Microsoft and I've got the sun jvm.
the Microsoft one seems to work better on image tricks, whether they be
special effects on pictures or fancy menus with sound etc. It seemed that
the Microsoft jvm provided smother animation and better response.

not that I know of. you may do the google search for one. I'm sure someone
somewhere has one up on a website.
I'd email it to you but it's too big.

guaranteeing the demise of Java as a popular programming technology, and
thus shooting themselves in the foot.

I had a HD crash recently and decided to back up a bunch of stuff. I
couldn't find the JVM that I got when that stupid huggy bear email thing was
circulating but I was able to find it on a software companies site. they
claim that the jvm is integral and necessary to their software so they're
still allowed to offer it. I'll see if I can find the link:
