Jimco's Spawn

I've seen Spawn recommended here often and it looks as if it might do
what I'm trying to do, but before I install it, I have a few
questions.

Will it allow me to set up a list of products so that a viewer can
click on one and a box will come up with a picture and some
information about it?

Is it easy to uninstall if it doesn't do what I want?

Do I understand correctly that a pop-up blocker program won't disable
it?

Thank you.

You would have to create a page that contains this information and then
create a pop-up window with Spawn that opens that window.

Absolutely! All of my products uninstall completely via the Add/Remove
Programs applet in Control Panel.

Pop-up blockers work by blocking pop-ups that are automatic. In other
words, if the pop-up appears because you clicked a link, pop-up blockers
will allow the pop-up. Users can modify these settings so that ALL pop-ups
are blocked, but almost no one does this. Even if they do, Spawn will
display the information for the pop-up as a regular link in those cases.

1. Yes, you can do that.

2. Yes.

3. that depends on the popupblocker but most of them only stop automatic
popups not popups that results from a user action (such as clicking on
something.

Thank you for your answers to my questions. If I created a page for
each product with picture and text, would I set the table to be a
certain size e.g. 300 px wide, and your program would open a box on
the screen that was 300 px wide when the viewer clicked on the product
name link?

Do I instal the program inside the web on my hard drive and then
publish it to my web host?

Thank you, I will do that too.

Make sure to check Spawn however. The information that Webs Unlimited posts
on their Web site about Spawn is not accurate. Check it out for yourself.

You can create a page with anything on it you would like. Spawn will create
a pop-up window of whatever dimensions you specify.

Just install Spawn into FrontPage and then click on Tools, Jimco Add-ins and
you'll find it there.

Thank you again. It sounds like a great program and I will definitely
give it a try in the next few days. I've already downloaded it.

One more question that just occurred to me--Is the pop-up box
compatible with all of the more common browsers?

It is compatible with all browsers I've checked. If the browser supports
pop-ups, Spawn pop-ups will work.

It is an "add-in" for Frontpage and just generates Javascript code - so
there's nothing to upload to the server, just your web page with the code
created by the Spawn addin.
