Journal Not Tracking Word or Excel

I've gone into the Journal setup, several times. I've clicked "on" all the contacts and items I want it to track, i.e., MS Word documents, Excel documents, and emails. It's only tracking emails, nothing else. How do I get it to "turn on" the MS Word and Excel documents too
