Thanks

Is there a way to configure file extensions for MS FP 2002 in order to add the jpe extension?

No for FP, but you can configure an image application to open the ,jpe file
from within FP under Tools | Options | Configure Editors.

When you say it isn't recognized, what exactly do you mean? Does FrontPage
not open the file in the default graphics editor? Not import the file?
Could you be more specific about the problem this is causing. If you can, I
bet we can come up with a fix for you.

As a test, I added a .jpe file to one of my webs and all the interactivity I
expect for a .jpg was there.

On the off chance that it's not associated with your graphics editor, there
are a couple things to try.

First, make sure your editor is set as the default handler for that file
type in general. FrontPage honors Windows' file associations and should
make use of them. Most graphics apps have an option to create file
associations and this is usually the easiest method.

If that doesn't fix things, try manually creating an Editor option for the
file type.
- Click "Tools | Options..."
- Select the "Configure Editors" tab
- Double-check the list of types to see if there is already an association
for jpg or gif since this will probably have settings you want to use for
jpe
- Click "Add..."
- For "File type:" add: jpe (you don't need to add the . )
- For "Editor name:" enter the name of your editor such as Photoshop, Paint
Shop Pro, etc.
- For "Command" use the "Browse..." button to find the executable for your
editor
- Click "OK"
- Cick "OK" again

You should now be able to double-click on a jpe file and have it open in
your editor.

Hope that helps.

You would be much better off to use an image editor
that will let you convert it / save it with the .jpg extension.
The free IrfanView will do it.

Sorry for not expanding on the problem. When designing a Web page, I wanted to add a photo so I went to "Insert" then "Picture" and opened the folder where the image is located...no images were listed in the folder. After following your and Thomas's advise concerning adding the jpg under "Configure Editors"...now the jpe shows when I go to "Insert" then "Picture" and opened the folder. I am not trying to edit the photo in FP...I do use graphic programs such as Illustrator, PSP, PS to edit images

Again, thanks all...problem solved.
