I am compiling a Word 2000 document. In this document I
insert 3 jpeg's, between 20 and 67 kb each. When I open
the document it is 2.11 mb. After opening the document I
delete one jpeg. After saving the document again it
shrinks in size to 1.23 mb. If the graphic is 67 kb why
does it increase the document size by almost 1 mb. What
can I do to prevent this ?

One way is to copy the picture file to the clipboard (right-click on it,
copy). Then go in Word, "Edit" menu, and use the "paste special" feature.
Select "picture" as the format. It will paste it in whatever format it is
that makes Word happy, and your document will be smaller. OR, if you have a
document full of the pictures already, just cut them from the document one
by one and then use the same paste special thing.

Maybe there is a "correct" way to do it with the Insert menu, but I don't
know for sure.
