JPG, GIF, PNG icons and Photo Editor

I am running Win2k and Office2k, along with several Adobe
and Macromedia applications. I prefer the PhotoEditor
icons, but when installing, say Macro Fireworks, it
defaults the association of JPG, GIF, PNG. I have gone to
My Computer/Tools/Folder Options and changed the
associations back to PhotoEditor, however now the icon is
generic to all three, instead of the red, green and orange
that I am familiar with. I have also tried making a copy
of PhotoED.exe and renaming and using the new .exe file as
the association without success. Any help appreciated.
TIA.

To change the Icon, open My Computer, Tools, Folder Options, File Types,
Scroll down to say GIF, and select it. Now just above the "Apply" button
there should be an "Advanced" button(if it says "Restore" then click on
that to get it to change to "Advanced" (you will have to change
associations back)) Click on Advanced and now you have the option to
change Icon. Select change Icon and then you can pick "Browse" .
navigate to the PhotoEd.exe file and click on it and then pick the Icon
you want. Click Ok and OK, and now you have the new icon.
