Jumping Cursor in WORD 2010

I'm just fed up with it. I bought Office 2010 thinking the jumping
cursor I have learned to live with ever since--whatever version came
with Windows 3.1 would finally go away. The d*&n thing is jumpier than
ever; and I'll be typing in paragraph D and look up to find my text
way back in paragraph B.

Is there a patch I could download for this? Thank you.

Usually, the problem you are describing is caused by an oversensitive touchpad (assuming that you are using a laptop). Or are you saying that the problem is only with Office products?

In my experience, with Word 2000, I get this when I type gaily on and hit
the wrong key! My solution is to type more carefully...

Indeed, it has nothing to do with the touchpad. While the cursor does
jump if I have a finger on the touchpad, it also jumps if I'm touching
nothing at all. This jumping occurs most frequently while using, like,
a twelfth-generation template, first downloaded years ago. The page
size is 6 x 9, which is seen on the screen in page layout View. The
font size is Times New Roman 11, single space.

If you or anyone could just point me to generic causes of jumping
pointers IN MICROSOFT WORD (and only in Word), I'd appreciate it.
Thank you for taking the time to read this post.
