Junk Email Filter: Block List Policy

R

Rich

I'm looking for some help using a policy in my domain via
the outlk11.adm template that specifies the path to a text
file that can be used for the "blocked senders" list used
by the Outlook Junk Email filter. I've defined this as
user policy and the path to the text file is reachable by
the client. The client is Outlook 2003, running in
exchange cached mode with the junk email filter enabled. I
cannot seem to get this policy to work at all. Has anyone
else been able to get this to work? On a related note, I
cannot get the "path to safe senders list" policy to work
either. Thanks in advance!

Hi Rich,

Thanks for posting here.

Based on my knowledge, we can try the following steps to narrow down the
issue.

1. Please verify whether you can access the text file in Outlook Client
workstation. You can verify the path by clicking Start menu -> clicking Run
-> inputting path.

2. Let's change another group policy template or make a little change in
the current template and then run "gpupdate /force" command to apply the
update and verify whether the issue is related to original template.

Then please let me know the result at your earliest convenience so that I
can provide further assistance. I look forward to your reply. Thanks and
have a nice day!

Thanks & Regards,

Hi Lee,

I have verified that I do have access to the text file via
the workstation running the Outlook client. In fact I have
verified this on several workstations. I have been able to
modify another portion of the same template and verify
that the policy is being applied to the Outlook client.
The policy I used for this test was the published working
hours for the calendar. The Outlook client shows those
hours defined in the policy and they are grayed out.

Look forward to your reply.

2. In Outlook Client Side, please open Safe Sender List, and capture a
screen shot of the list.

Please send both the screen shots to me directly for further research:
[email protected].

Meanwhile, please follow the instruction in the article below to verify the
group policy.

Hi Rich,

Thanks for your update. Based on my further research, please try the
following steps to narrow down the issue.

1. According to my test, the blocked sender list in this Group Policy
template will generate a registry key below in all Outlook 2003 Clients.

Location: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Options\Mail

Value Name: JunkMailBlockedSendersFile

Please verify whether there is such key in the Outlook 2003 Workstation.

2. Please make a change in the same Group Policy template, such as word
editor, so that we can verify whether the issue is related to the same
template.

Please let me know the result at your earliest convenience. If there is
anything unclear, feel free to let me know. Have a nice day!

Thanks & Regards,

Hi Rich,

Thanks for your update. I have built up several test environments in these
days and have done further research by repeating the same tests. I found
that no matter I Specific path to safe senders list in local policy or in
Domain policy, I encountered the same issue as you in these environments, I
can enable all other policies in this template. It is possibly a product
problem. As an end user too, I truly understand the inconvenience the
process will take. I have routed your feedback to the appropriate channel.
If there is anything new, I will update you as soon as possible. Thanks for
your understanding and have a nice day!

Thanks & Regards,
