I am not sure I understand what you are trying to accomplish.
Are you just trying to backup the documents {*.doc and *.xls} that you
created to a CD using Roxio? If so, the files you copied to the CD are read
only because that is the standard for a CD-ROM {CD-Read Only Media}. All
you need to do to restore is copy the files back to your hard, select the
files, right click on the selected files and clear the read only attribute.
Are you trying to backup the Excel and Word applications by copying just the
programs files? If so, that will not work as you need more than just the
program files to restore the applications.
You may want to invest a image/backup application {Norton Ghost is one} to
image your system to an external drive, CDs or DVDs so you can restore the
full system is you ever have a major failure. Norton Ghost and similar
image/backup applications give you a choice of restoring the full system or
using a included utility to restore selected folders and files.
