just installed and can't get it to run

I just installed Outlook 2002 so that I can sync mail
with my new pocketPC. after installation whenever I
attempt to run Outlook it pops up the message

"You need microsoft internet explorer 4.01 or later to
use this feature."

I have IE6 installed (it's default for WinXP anyway).

I'd really appreciate any help.
