Just installed Office Pro Upgrade. Access reports not opening.

Just installed Office Professional Upgrade on XP computer. I cannot create
reports, modify sample reports or even run sample reports. I have tried to
repair the installation. I have removed the installation and reinstalled
Office Pro, and the problem persists.

Do I take that to mean XP on XP? (SOmetimes it's not and in order to get an
accurate answer one must provide even what they believe to the 'obvious'
details.)

ANd if it is XP on XP can you create forms, queries, etc...?

The computer is a new computer that had Microsoft XP home addition as its OS.
There was MS works installed. I purchased the Microsoft Office Professional
2003 upgrade. Access works fine in table creation, queries, and forms, but
the reports do not work. This is both for my personal data base and the
Northwind sample database.

Have you installed the Service Pack and Jet 4.0, if not do that first and
see if that corrects the issue.

When you say 'do not work', do you get an error message? They just don't
open? What? Remember we can't see your computer.

It may be that you just need to install a printer on your computer. You
just need to install a printer driver.

I installed the service pack. There was no change in the report function not
working. I tried to install Jet 4, but I could not do this because my current
Jet version was more up to date than the down load available on the Microsoft
site.

There is no usually no error message. Nothing happens when the buttons are
pressed. When I use the wizard to try to create a report, I do receive the
message Wizard was unable to create the report. The computer is connected to
a printer. I am using Word without problmes.

This has me stumped... A few questions might help pin point the problem

1. Have tried creating a brand new database in Access 2003 and still have
the same problem? Do not import anything from anywhere.

2. Please confirm that you do in fact have the latest version of Jet 4.0
Service Pack (see below for chart) Msjet40.dll version Jet 4.0 release
level
4.0.2927.4 Service Pack 3 (SP3)
4.0.3714.7 Service Pack 4 (SP4)
4.0.4431.1 or 4.0.4431.3 Service Pack 5 (SP5)
4.0.6218.0 Service Pack 6 (SP6)
4.0.6807.0 Service Pack 6 (SP6) shipped only with Windows Server 2003
4.0.7328.0 Service Pack 7 (SP7)
4.0.8015.0 Service Pack 8 (SP8)
4.0.8618.0 Security Bulletin MS04-014
4.0.9025.0 Update Rollup 1 for Windows 2000 SP4

3. The printer in Access operates differently then it does in Word (a known
bug) Open Northwind and go to the reports tab, highlight a report and
select File, Page Set-up and confirm that the reports in fact do "see" the
printer.

4. Last resort, rename the below files (they are the wizard files and
repair Office. Maybe the wizard(s) has been corrupted
Acwzmain.mde
Acwztool.mde
Acwzlib.mde

Hope one of those helps...

Yes, I made a very simple database and no reports can be created. Hitting the
design button results in no action and no error message is generated. I
uninstalled the program this morning. I reinstalled it from the CD. I went to
the Office update site on the web and installed all the available updates.
The current Msjet40.dll is 4.0.8618.0 Security Bulletin MS04-014. I have not
tried renaming the Wizards yet.

Within Access: File>Print....

Is a valid printer showing? "The computer is connected to a printer" is a
start, but not enough by itself as far as Access is concerned.
No printer = no report capability.

HTH,

Thank you. When I checked the printer icon, it said there was no printer. I
have two printers connected to the computer. An Epson Stylus 900, and a
Lexmark Optra E310. When I set the Epson as the default printer, Access
Report Functions work. When I set the Lexmak as the default printer, it is
not recognized and the Report Functions do not work. Should I try a new
driver for the Lexmark printer?

Should I try a new driver for the Lexmark printer?

Only if you want to use the Lexmark with Access. :) (Sorry, I couldn't
resist.)

Seriously, I think printer driver issues are the way to go now. Good Luck.
(I'm glad that you at least have *some* reporting capability now)
