Just noticed this...is it a bug or have I gone buggy?

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel Hi, I have a continuos section break in the middle of my document so I can rotate a table page landscape, no problem, but the pagination in the footer goes wonky. Best to see this screen grab:

The previous page is correct but all sections that follow (footers all link to previous) are messed up, as the numbering has been restarted at 1. I can't find the option for Page X of Y / start page# @ X, if that's what I should be doing. Thx so much for your help!

Sorry, just figured this out. I opened up the file in VmWare/Office 2007 and the click I needed was right on the ribbon. Gotta love and hate that thing both:)

In Word 2008, it's the "old" command: Insert>Page Number>Format...

Cheers

Arg! Just noticed now that I have multiple sections of landscaped tables mixed with portrait text, the page numbers keep getting reset back to 1 when opened on a mac. Must be a bug. The fix for me is to to final pagination in Office 2007, because there I can find the switch "continue page numbering from previous section." I can't find that switch in Word 2008. What a mess!

The setting is among those on the Formatting Palette while active in a
Header or Footer. The rightmost button in the Insert row of the Header &
Footer group is the Format Page Number button. Click it to get into the
Format Page Number dialog then adjust the option for "Continue from previous
section". You can also get to it from Insert> Page Number - Format.

FWIW, when serving to accommodate Margin or Orientation changes [those which
shouldn't/can't be mixed on a single page] I find Next Page Section Breaks
preferable to Continuous.

thx, that does the trick. The strange thing about this one is that it healed itself after the third next section was added. The numbers started working right! Well, thx again for the heads up on where that switch is...

It's not a good idea to use "Continuous" section breaks to change page
orientation, because the rules about Continuous Section Breaks are a little
complex.

Basically, a Continuous section break can appear anywhere on a page, but any
page properties it specifies will not take effect until just before the
first character of text on the following page.

Better to use "Next Page" for orientation changes, since the properties you
want won't happen until the next page anyway. Logically, they can't: there
must be a new sheet of paper in the printer buffer before any page-level
properties can be given effect.
