hey all,

i am from New Orleans. I had two computers, one in my Office downstairs,
one in my bedroom upstairs, which i used exclusively for games. My house took
5 ft. of water, and my downstairs computer was destroyed, along with all my
documentatioin and so forth in the Office. I want to activate Office on my
computer upstairs (which i dont have a product key for now) so i can have it
as my work computer. Is there anything i can do or am i just screwed buying
a whole new office for god knows how much $$?

If you don't have the Office Product Key, how in the world
do you expect to install and activate Office? Sorry for your
loss!

If you have a "retail version" of Office, and you had registered
that copy with Microsoft, contact Microsoft for assistance.

Since Office came with the destroyed computer, you're probably out of luck.
That means it's an OEM copy, tied to the computer you bought it with. But
check out the link Carey gave; maybe something there will help.

Office didnt come with the destroyed computer. It came with and is presently
installed on the computer that i have and have salvaged. I just have never
opened it or used b/c i didnt use that computer for business. When i tried
to open it the other day, it asked me for an activation code. My computer
that office came with is fine, only its documentation got screwed up. I
bought it at Best Buy; its an emachines.

Office is already installed; i paid for it when i bought my emachines
computer at best buy. I used that computer for games exclusively, until my
office computer was destroyed. I have office installed on the computer, when
i first start it it asks for a product key, which was destroye din the flood.
Is there nothing i can do?

I'm afraid not since your Office version is an
OEM version that cannot be transferred to another
computer.

OK, im not sure why this isnt getting through... I am not trasferring office
to another computer. The computer that was salvaged CAME WITH MS OFFICE.
The computer that was saved has MS OFFICE and always has since i bought it.
I just had never run it before, and now i cant run it because it wants a
product ID when it starts. I had two computers, both with MS Office. One for
work, one for games. The work one died. I saved the one that was upstairs,
tried to open office, didnt have a product key.

If your working computer came with Office, you'll
need to contact the manufacturer of the computer
and ask them for the appropriate Office Product Key.

John -

I don't believe that the version of Office that is on your eMachine is a
full version. I'm almost positive that it is a 60 day trial version. It's
rare to find an OEM computer that has Office pre-installed. And then when
you consider that's it's an over-the-counter eMachine..........I'd suggest
you pick up a full retail version of Office. You can choose the edition that
best suits your needs.

I don't think it's possible to get a second product key for a trial version
but you can always call Microsoft and try.
