Is there any way to edit/change the keyboard shortcuts in
excel 2000. I have a laptop and i'm using a external
numeric key pad and everytime i push the minus sign ( - )
it enables the Extend feature in the Sheet tabs. i would
like to change that so that it only functions as a minus
sign. thanks for any help or suggestions

What is the "Extend feature in the Sheet tabs"
do you mean Tabbing with the Scroll Lock on.
What is happening.

Do you by any chance have Transitional Navigation keys
turned on in Tools, Options, Transition that would mess
you up.

Okay first its not on the sheet tabs, thats a mistake
sorry about that, its on the status bar.

The Extend or EXT as it shows up on the right side of the
status bar, is to select multiple cells instead of one, it
extends your selection. thats my understanding at least.

my problem is when i press the minus sign on my numeric
key pad it enables EXT, which i dont want, what i want to
happen is that i just type in the minus sign in the cell.

thanks for the reply, sorry for misunderstandings, any
help you can provide would be great. thanks.

I don't know how a minus sign is equating to F8 as that is what
is supposed to turn EXT and ALT on and off. Your understanding
of what EXT does is correct.

Was there any key changing software included with the auxiliary
key pad for laptop. I doubt that is would be changed to something
different though unless you did it.

I believe you said this only occurs from the numeric keypad,
but did you check Fn + P which is where the blue minus
sign appears in the keypad overlay on my laptop. Are you
interfaced to a mainframe (perhaps with PC Anywhere).

Every key on the keyboard is assigned a number, I don't know
where you find this number, but anything that would change the
assignment would have to tell you. You might have to resort to
that and hope that the keypad has unique assignment.

Did you try a search on the brand name and key reassignment
or call the vendor

thankyou again,

no, there was no key changing software included with the
keypad. I did use the Num lock on my laptop to see what
the minus sign would do, and it works as it should. It
seems to only activate the EXT with the external keypad.

I'm not interfaced to a mainframe. I will try a search on
my brand keypad to see what i can do. Thanks for the help.
