keep shapes stencils from appearing when opening visio file

In Visio 2003, is there a way to keep the shapes and stencils pane from
automatically appearing when you open a drawing?

a couple of issues here. You can turn off the shapes window in the view
menu, the other issue is to ensure that when the document is saved that the
shapes window is closed and to save the document with the workspace (if an
existing document you can use the saveas option).
