Keep Style Format

Elaine

We have a computer here that won't hold any style
formatting. Can you suggest how we might fix this? We
have uninstalled word and reinstalled it and it still
does the same thing.

Please help.

Hi Elaine,

Please elaborate.

Do you mean that formatting changes to a para affect all paras in the same
style? If so, Use Format|Style|Modify and turn off 'Automatically update'.
If the problem affects all documents, open the 'Normal.dot' template and
make the change there too.

Alternatively, with Word closed, find the 'Normal.dot' template and delete
it. When you re-start Word it will create a new 'Normal.dot' template, which
may cure your problem.

Cheers

Hello Macropod,

I did a search for the Normal.dot and didn't find it so I
could delete it. What am I doing wrong?

Thank you so much for your help.

It is not necessary to open Normal.dot to make this change. Just check the
"Add to template" box in the Modify Style dialog.

Hi Elaine,

To find the 'Normal.dot' template, look under Tools|options|File Locations
and check the entries against 'User templates' and 'Workgroup templates'.

Cheers

Also, normal.dot may be hidden if you don't have the settings to be able to
View System and Hidden files in Windows Explorer.
