keeping fractions

I want to add data as fractions but instead it auto-completes it as date-month. ive tried changing the auto complete preferences but to no avail. come someone lend me a hand?

It's most easily accomplished if you *first* format the cells as Fraction...

Since fraction display is less frequently used in spreadsheets the prominent
"feature" is that the cell is automatically formatted for Date as soon as
you type the "/" [well, almost]. That also causes the entry to get converted
to a date value, so changing the formatting afterward doesn't help.
