What a question, one would need pages on end.
In short:
INPUT
Everything that is necessary to calculate plan dates and data:
- Calendars (Working and nonworking time)
- Tasks with duration, constraints..
- Relationships between tasks (A can't start before B ends f.i.)
- Resources and their properties (calendars, cost rates..)
- Assignments, i.e. who is to work on each task
OUTPUT
- The planned dates for the tasks (earliest, latest)
- The resource usage through time
