A long time ago, I read there was a way to use the keyboard to create the
"Cents" sign in a document.

I can't offer specific advice, since your question is devoid of details.

Here's one way to insert the symbol for cents, if you have Windows XP:

1. Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Character Map

2. Choose your font from the drop-down list at the top of the window.

3. Locate and click on the symbol for cents.

4. Look on the right side of the status bar for the Keystroke box. That
gives you a keystroke combination you can use in just about any Office file.

I would like to suggest that you include more detail when you ask a
question. It gets you to the right answer faster.

The Alt+numeric keypad strokes are listed in the "Insert", "Symbol"
dialog box. For the cent sign it happens to be Alt+0162
