Keyboard not working properly

Keyboard keys do not work after start-up. I hear a faint 'blipping' sound
from the stack. If I press and hold the SHIFT key for about 8-10 seconds, I
hear the faint blipping sound as it accelerates for 15 blips to a 'rolling'
blip, then I can use the keys as normal. It works fine until I've shut the
computer down and the problem comes back upon start-up.
Last week I accidently held the right SHIFT key down for the 8-10 while
checking data and this problem began. I'd found a box that let me enlarge my
curser, so I thought I may have inadvertantly checked or unchecked something
to do with the keys. I can't find this problem on the internet. Can someone
help?
