keys not repeating

F

foxhunter-quebec

when I hold down a key to repeat that character, it stops on it's own and I
have to re-press the key numerous times until I get the required amount of
repeated characters on my Word document, email anything requiring a single
character to be repeated.
This halting action is even showing up in a shooter game I installed [I'm a
newbie at the gaming arena] My video is a Nvidia GeForce 6600 with 256 MB of
on board mem. Paging is set to 800 MB, after that, I'm at a loss as what to
do next.
Thanks in advance for your help/suggestions

How many times are you going to ask this question and never bother to check
for a response?

JoAnn - I'm learning how to use this resource - I wasn't getting "Notified"
so I posted a couple times. With yours and others annoyance I saw where to go
to find the replies etc - sorry for the multiple posts and annoying you and
others.

The second most important thing is that you've learned how the newsgroups
work. The most important thing is that you got the answer to your question.

Newsgroups are a great source of information when they are used properly. If
you have a question, search for the correct newsgroup first. There's nothing
that will inspire nasty-grams faster than posting ion the wrong group. After
you've located the correct (most applicable group) is to see whether or not
your issue has be dealt with in the past. In the Publisher group we get the
question "Is there a viewer available for Publisher?" asked so often that
it's ridiculous. I think each group gets asked one question more than any
other. And once you've found the right group and cannot find an answer in
the archives, post it once (with all appropriate information) and then wait
for someone to help you. Some of us read the groups frequently. Others
actually have a life and spend time away from their computer. (I've tried
that - my computer whines if I'm gone too long.)

Good luck with your issue.

As I'm moving through the news groups it's actually sort of exciting. Being a
newbie has it's rewards; we can get away from the dos prompt more often than
you guru's. Unfortunately, "TF" wasn't able to direct me to a fix.
Uninstalling and re-installing drivers for the keyboard helped, a little.
Repeating a key still stops but less frequently now; about twice as long as
before.
Thanks much JoAnn and it was a pleasure being Growled at. Thanks for the
nice follow up; I appreciate it and I will get the hang of such a powerful
resource.
Take care

I only grumble. At my worst I growl and I rarely ever bite. ;-)

I'm curious tho - why do you need long stretches of repeated keystrokes?

He already said--gaming. Which is why this was never truly a Word issue from

I read that but I was hoping that *maybe* he really needed to be able to do
it within Word as well.

Do you have a game minimised in background when you get this problem? If so,
do you get the problem when everything is closed except Word?
