Labeling parts of a worksheet

K

Kathy

Hey there,

Does anyone have an example of the following:
1. How you denote column titles and row titles (e.g.,
headings and stubs)
2. How you denote required fields
3. How to denote the cursor movement through the cells as
one presses the TAB key
4. How to denote when the user should move to the next
worksheet

maaaaany thanks!

I'm not sure exactly what you mean/want....

#1. I put a label in row 1 and column A for my titles. Then I make sure A1 is
in the top left corner. I select B1 and window|Freeze Panes. That way that row
and that column are always visible.

#2. I try to put all the user input in a single column. If the worksheet needs
to be protected, I'll unlock those cells that need input. If there's any doubts
what goes there, I'll give a nice "enter data here" color (light yellow is my
favorite). Maybe even a comment in the cell to help reduce confusing questions.

#3. When only the data entry cells are unlocked and the worksheet is protected,
the tab key will advance only to those unlocked cells.

#4. You could use a button or hyperlink that allows the user to click on it and
advance to the next sheet. But for data input, I figure I've got 64k cells in a
single column. They might not have to go to another sheet.

#5. I like to add an "Instruction" worksheet to any workbook that might be
confusing. It'll have more detailed instructions. I make sure that the
workbook opens to this sheet.
