Labels out of caliper

B

BobO''''''''B

Somewhere along the road, an update to Office 2003 seems to have destroyed my
ability to print Avery 5160/8160 labels!
Despite the fact that I create a new label and change to top margin to
0.00", the data prints half way down the label - even if I use another
printerb(and feeds a blank page thereafter!).
5160 and 8160 labels ALWAYS worked fine, but I don't know what update
screweed it up.

HP and Microsoft can't give me an answere, so I want to do an ABSOLUTELY
clean unisnstall of Office 2003 - EVERYTHING - and start afresh, so I need to
know what files to remove; what REGISTRY entries to remove - so I can be at a
point where my labels print as they used to!

If there's a way to overwrite the label profiles fromthe Office 2003 CD,
I'll try that, but I'm really frustrated that something that worked 6 months
ago , no longer works. Good old MicroSoft!

Hi Bob

This sounds a bit drastic just for a sheet of labels that won't print! A
sheet of labels is only a pre-created table saved as a template.

May I suggest that to find the problem (which won't necessarily go away by
your solution because you don't actually know what is the cause) you try the
following first.

1. Are you able to create and print a different sheet of labels
successfully?
2. Have you tried renaming normal.dot as normal.bad and creating a sheet of
5160s?
3. Try creating a sheet of 5160s and saving to your HDD. Then from Word,
Open, select the document and use the Open and Repair option (under the
little arrow at the side of the OPEN button). Does Word report finding any
problem with this document and does it still not print?

Finally, if this finds nothing, would you like to email me the label
document as an attachment to look at?

Terry,
Thanks for your reply!

Option #2 seems to have cured the issue, though I no longer see the the
dotted outline of a Header and Footer greyed out in both Normal and Print
View.

Did I miss a setup check box somewhere?

Possible the Hide Whitespace option has been triggered. Check under the View
Menu for ViewWhiteSpace.

Man, YOU ARE QUICK!

However, my Office 2003 Word (11.8215.82002 SP3), [View] drop down only has:
Normal
Web Layout
Print Layout
Outline
Task Pane
Toolbars
Ruler
Document Map
Thumbnails
Header and Footer
Footnotes (greyed out in a blank document)
Markup
Full Screen
Zoom

Searched all Office Online for any reference to "ViewWhitespace" but found
nothing. Checked [View] in all layouts, but still no 'ViewWhitespace'.
(and there are no Disabled Items).

Stymied - or should I use [Help] -> [Detect and Repair]?

Terry,

I experimented further and used the Toolbar -> Customise option and added
"View White Space Between Pages".
COOKIN' WITH GAS!!!

Thanks for making me dig deeper!!!

Thanks Suzanne!
You are right; so easy to "switch off" with asingle click!

I certainly appreciate the fantastic response I've received from Terry and
yourself and now I have to battle this strange system to rate these posts at
110% as my frustration has faded into oblivion!
