Labour cost

So im trying to get my labour cost (works x $per hr) for all the workers in
my project.

I have all the $per hr rate for every employee, and i input the hours they
worked every week.

And i want MS project to magical spit out how much it cost me to have all
workers working for a time period (Oct25-Nov22nd) for monthly progress
billing purpose.

How do i show this??

Easiest way is to View the Resource or Task Usage View, right click yellow
timephased area and select Cost. Edit the timescale to show days and add up
the cost. If your period was calendar month you would simply use Monthly
timescale.

If you want to automate this by creating a report in Excel, you can do it
but you will need to use VBA as you don't have a standard period such as
calendar month.

Project2000-2003. Use the Analyze Timephased Data in MS Excel Wizard
available on the analysis tool bar. You can specify ACWP, Actual Cost and a
timeframe.

OR

View/Reports... select Cost and then Cash Flow. You can select edit to
change the details and the time units to monthes.

These assume you are accurately enterring COSTS into MS Project (or letting
Project calculate them). Keep in mind COST and PLANNED SPEND are two
entirely different things.

Project2007

Report/Visual Reports... select the cost report of your choice.
You can also do Report/Reports and it behaves like P2003.

It seems a cost accounting system is the better tool for this job.

Hi Shawn,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

Just an observation in case others are reading these responses: Project is
not a cost accounting program. The rate you give a resource should not be
the wages cost but the cost to the company of using that resource. It
should include overheads like training, holidays, sick leave,
administration, etc. I would consult the company's accountants to get a
representative figure. In your case, whether that figure is of use to you
or not is a value judgment you must make.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)
