Lag in Word

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: intel

I am running office 2008 (home and student) on an 2.16 Intel Core Duo Macbook Pro with 2Ghz of Ram installed.
since first installing office 2008 I have notices a slight (fraction os a second) delay in my typing appearing on screen. I am not a really proficient typist but I can certainly out race the program easily.
Initially this was not a big problem.
Recently the lag has become so bad that the software is unusable. I am able to type entire sentences before they appear on screen and going back to edit my mistakes is torture. There is a full 2 second delay even in doing something as simple as pressing backspace to delete a character.
I am not using the normal template but one that I have made myself. That said it is about as simple a template as can be with a header and The first line of a bulleted list.
I have added about 3 styles to the style list and really, that is about it.

Any help would be appreciated greatly.

Thanks

Paul

Hi Paul:

I think this will turn out to be another attack of the Slow Leopard disease.

We don't have any good answers for it yet.

The "Template" is not really the issue. A Word document makes no further
use of the template after it has been created. But it can get full of cruft
and conflicts and cause new documents that you create to start off slow.

In this case, I suspect that the document itself needs a cleanup.

Let's try a "Maggie":

1) Create a new blank document

2) Carefully select all of the text in the bad document EXCEPT the last
paragraph mark

3) Copy it.

4) Paste in the new document.

5) Save under a new file name and close all, then re-open.

This technique for de-corrupting is known as "Doing a 'Maggie'", after
Margaret Secara from the Word PC-L mailing list who first publicised the
technique.

Let us know what the result was...

Cheers
