Language Icon on Taskbar disappears

Regional settings are set up to English, Canada with
French Canadian Keyboard. The "EN" shows on the taskbar.
When I open Word (I've just upgraded to Office XP),
the "EN" disappears and the language reverts to US
English. This causes problems in other applications.
Imagine having to set this up several times a day.

Check that you haven't set the default template language as US English in
the Set Language dialog, and that smart keyboard switching isn't on in the
Tools Options dialog.
