language indicator doesn't appear on taskbar-why?

I have used 'Simplified Tips and Tricks for XP'to enter text in a different
language. But the language indicator does not show up anywhere on the task
bar or desktop. I just want to be able to type in Icelandic or Spanish when
needed! I can not see what I am doing wrong. Can anyone please help?
