How do you change the language preference to English (UK). I have changed all
the required boxes, I think, but the spell check and autocorrect keep
changing the correct UK spelling back into the US spelling.

I too prefer English (UK) in my academic papers, but the language preference
kept switching back to English (US) even though I had checked English (UK) as
default. What I finally did was to pull up my Word 2003 document, and hit the
"Select all" tab BEFORE choosing the language. (Tools/language/ etc.). The
language has remained English (UK) all through the day, even though,
previously, it kept switching to English (US) every few minutes. It's worked
so far, and I hope it stays this way. Try it, and let me know if you have
success.

Default new word documents are based on the "normal.dot" template, so
you have to set the default spellcheck language in that template and
save it as a document template(.dot) in a "templates" folder.

Select "Tools - Options" in the menus, and then the file locations tab.
There are two possible template locations.

- The "workgroup" one is for networked setup, and saving a template here
will affect all users using the same template folder.

- The "user" one is for you only, and should be on your computer or in
your home directory on the network.

If there is a "normal.dot" both in the "user" and "workgroup" area, the
"user" template will be used.
