languages - chinese text displays as boxes

i have a user who was sent a word document that is written in both
english and chinese. When opened, the english text shows up in the
document, but the chinese shows up as squares/boxes. When I open the
same word document on other PC's using the same version of word
(2003), I am able to see the chinese characters w/ no problem.

I've tried the following:
1. Word-->Tools-->Language-->Set Language....verified "Detect language
automatically" was set.
2. Enabled the Chinese (PRC) language in the Microsoft Office 2003
Language Settings.

Any hlep is much appreciated!

It sounds like the fonts that were used are not loaded.

BTW - their is a way to save the fonts with the document so that the
receiving user does not need the fonts.
