I have purchased a new wireless mouse for my laptop - is there are way I can
turn off the laptop mouse without uninstalling it?

Depends on the model. The one on my Dell can be configured to automatically
disable itself if a second mouse is installed at startup. Look in Control
Panel under Mouse.
