Large Amounts of Data in Excel Chart

I have a user with an Excel chart of research data (over
20000 rows) that is to be placed in an Excel chart and
inserted into a Word document. As you can imagine
rendering such a large amount of data is quite a problem
every time the word document is refreshed with editing and
scrolling. Other than making the chart a picture, what
can I do to keep it from redrawing the chart every time
the user scrolls.

Is there anything better I can do for research data?

Whatever type of chart you use, XL is going to have to read in each value.
Some of the chart gurus may give you a better answer, but I suspect anything
other than a picture, or summarising the 20000 points to show the overall
'pattern' is going to be slow
